As the holiday invitations start to roll in, you will probably be receiving an invite to the office party. Going to your office Christmas party can be a great way to end the year and start your holiday break. Getting together with your co-workers can be fun, but it is important to remember that technically you are still at work and you should act accordingly. Here are a few tips to help you survive your office party.
Dress Code – The invitation should give you a feel for what type of party to expect. Dress appropriately; if the party is casual, it is not a good idea to show up in a three-piece suit.
Limit Your Drinking – One of the most important things to remember is do not drink too much. Careers have ended or been seriously derailed due to a few too many drinks at a holiday party. While it is quite acceptable to have one or two drinks, do not overdue it.
Small Talk – Keep conversations light, the holiday party is not the place to have deep personal talks or to complain about work, your co-workers or your boss.
Bringing a Date – If you decide to bring a date or your significant other it is a good idea to have a conversation about what is acceptable behavior and what topics are off limits when it comes to conversations.
Keeping these tips in mind will ensure you have a fun and successful office party.
